Mary Flinn is coming back to Ottawa!
About the Teacher:
Mary Flinn was authorized to teach Ashtanga Yoga (Level 2) by Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Rangaswami at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute (AYRI), in Mysore. She studied yoga philosophy and pranayama with Shankaranarayan Jois. She has directed Teacher Training programs in NYC, been a model for Dorlin Kindersley books ‘Kundalini Yoga’ and ‘Kiss Yoga’ by Shakti Kaur Khalsa, and featured in ‘Ascent’ magazine F- 2000 issue ‘Mary’s Loft’.
Mary is teaching Ashtanga in the light of her Guru, Shri K. Pattabhi Jois.

FR1 – Friday Oct 1, 2010 – 6:30pm to 8:30pm – Cost: $35
Led Half Primary Series with Meditation and Emphasis on Flow
After a brief lecture and meditation to focus our attention, the led Primary Series will emphasize on the standing postures. We will examine various modifications and ways to deepen the experience.
SA1 – Saturday Oct 2, 2010 – 9am to 11am – Cost: $45
Grace and Ease in Our Yoga Practice and in Life
Awareness of the ‘Trishdana’ or 3 places of attention (Breath, Posture and Gaze) will help us to develop grace and ease in our yoga practice. The gaze or drishti is the physical place of attention of the eyes but also how we view or perceive the posture for ourselves. We will concentrate on the use of breath and mind state to help us lighten our practice and our mind. Modifications will be given for those who need them. The format will be Ashtanga Yoga, but all styles and levels of practice are invited!
SA2 – Saturday Oct 2, 2010 – 1pm to 3pm – Cost: $35
Full Led Primary Series with the Sanskrit Count
This class will be a continuous flow without interruption. The flow and shared breath of the group become a web of support and enlightenment for everyone in the room. Familiarity with the sequence is part of the power of this type of led class, as we support each other in our desire to heal and cleanse the body. The class will end with a seated meditation to absorb the benefits of the practice.
SA3 – Saturday Oct 2, 2010 – 4pm to 5:30pm - Cost: $15
Agni Hotra Meditation, Philosophy and Sanskrit
Agni Hotra is an ancient meditation technique that incorporates fire and chanting to invoke healing and a meditative state. All of the sutras and ancient texts speak of stillness of mind as the means to the goal in yogic practice so meditation is important step to our practice.
SU1 – Sunday Oct 3, 2010 – 7am to 9am – Cost: $35
Mysore Class
Morning Mysore class is a self practice in which the teacher can take time with each person individually. Each student works at his or her own pace and the teacher has time to help with obstacles such as difficult postures or transitions.
Start time for Beginners : 7AM
Start time for Intermediate: 7:30AM
Start time for Advanced: 7AM or 7:30AM
SU2 Sunday Oct 3, 2010 10am to 12pm – Cost: $45
Venture Into Second Series
We will explore some aspects of the Second Series of Ashtanga. The series starts with a deepening of the backbends and then explores deeper postures for hips and hamstrings. Various modifications will be shown, as well as the correct Vinyasa flow. This could be uncharted territory for some, so leave your ego at home. A solid understanding of the Primary Series is recommended.
All sessions Friday to Sunday: $195 or $175.50 early bird until Sept 15th
Costs are plus applicable HST.
